Thank you Jon for your great videos, I am trying to learn Vlook ups in order to get employment.
Thanks Lisa! I wish you the best with your job search. Knowledge of the lookup formulas will definitely help impress employers.
I’m working my way to a MOS in Excel and plugging up the holes in my knowledge. You got 2 of them in this tutorial. I’m using VLOOKUP to return regions based on store identification. My lookup array is a named range on another tab to keep my report from looking cluttered.
Looking forward to the error video! Right now I’m facing a whole bunch of #N/As in that lookup. Might have something to do with some ids being numbers and some text. Setting all to general doesn’t seem to help.
Your site is bookmarked for my lunchtime reading!
Hi Barbara,
Sorry to not get back to you sooner. I hope you got your errors resolved. And thanks for making me part of your lunchtime! Let me know if you have any questions. 🙂
I am a data analyst and I need to know Vlookup to help match and track our day to day customers from those in the master EDS.Thanks for the great video.
Thanks Joram! Sounds like a great use for Vlookup.
Hi Jon,
Thanks for this webpage.
I really apreciate your work; it´s very useful.
Your videos are amazing and I look forword the next videos.

Jorge Costa
Thank you Jorge! I really appreciate the positive feedback.
I want to use vlookup to workout manufacturing cost variance and manufacturing recovery. Also to be able to use it to track error.
However, I must say you are really doing a great job.
Many thanks
Sam.
Thanks Sam! Those are great uses for lookup formulas. 🙂
I’m not sure what I will use VLOOKUP for yet, but just in the process of learning what Excel can do so I can say “Sure!” to my boss when he says, “Can you write a report to [do some amazing tasks]?” Currently I want to create a report to pull data from one customer DB then copy to another. I’ve had many requests by business owners who have built their customer database and now want to keep in contact using a greeting card system. They don’t want to manually recreate the DB but want to do a SAVE as .csv to use in another system.
So… that’s a long-winded way of saying “clueless!” I’m excited to learn more!
Haha thanks Tricia! Well I’m excited that you want to learn more, and have an open mind about it. That will take you along way with learning Excel.
Thanks again! 🙂
Hi Jon,
I need to analyze demographics to perform workforce analytics for my client. I have a huge spreadsheet and need to be able to find data quickly to perform calculations. This tutorial will come in handy. I love you classes. Very easy to follow.
Thank you
Thank you so much Cathy! Happy to hear you are enjoying the videos. 🙂
Hi Jon,
Thanks for the great videos! Very helpful and easy to use right away. I’m going to need the Vlookup in my new job for large data analyses.
Regards,
Dessy
Awesome! Thanks Dessy. And congrats on the new job! 🙂
Hi Jon
Really enjoyed the 5 Essentials to VLOOKUP.
Similar to Lisa I’m looking to brush up on more advanced excel skills to open up job opportunities.
I’ll be sure to add VLOOKUPs to my box of tricks to speed up how I work with data
Thanks Trevor! VLOOKUP is a great skill to add to your toolbox. Most employers are looking for people with these skills, and a little vlookup knowledge goes along ways in job interviews… 🙂
Had discovered you at my previous employers through On Line Hub. Now in transition and building a home library to stay sharp on all things Excel and VBA. Love the videos and cheatsheets and appreciate the simplification of your training.
Thanks Prescott! It’s great to have you here, and I’m excited you are learning so much about Excel. 🙂
I have lived on an island for a year and am now looking for employment back in the states. Have to take an exam before they’ll look at my resume on EXCEL Vlookup and pivot tables. Your videos are wonderful. I was certified on 2013 and this helps refresh my memory and learn the differences in 2016. I am also looking forward to the error video.
Wow that island living sounds awesome Shari! Welcome back! 🙂
I’m happy to hear you are enjoying the videos and learning so much about Excel. Employers are definitely looking for people with these skills. Thanks again and best of luck with the job search.
Great videos. I’ll be creating a workbook to track and analyze sales for our on-line store.
I’m hoping to use vlookup to enable me to create a dashboard and sliders to make the workbook easy for others to navigate.
Thanks Doug! That sounds like a great use for the lookup formulas. I also have a video series on pivot tables and dashboards that you might be interested in. Thanks again!
i will practice the vlookup function to find multiples values from my dummy data.
Awesome! Practice makes perfect… 🙂
Excellent , Thank you
Another great video & thanks for the reference sheet – exactly what I was looking for. Do you know when videos 2 & 3 will be available?
I pull things from our Financial Database in queries into PivotTables. I am comparing if someone has given to multiple mailings and also to find the totals 2 weeks after a mailing begins to see where we are and if we are in range with previous mailings.
Awesome use for lookup formulas. I also have an article on how to compare two lists with a pivot table. You might find this technique useful for comparing your data sets. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks Jennie! 🙂
Clearly laid out Jon, thank you. I use VLOOKUP to return commission %’age based on name or underlying company or product.
Thanks Peter! I have another article on how to use VLOOKUP to calculate commissions that you might like. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Really very nice video
I used this formula some time but always i am confused but after seen this video i have cleared all my doubt about Vlookup.
Thanks Ashish! 🙂
Thank you for the great videos, the clarity of instructions and the useful tips. I use vlookup as a substitute of nested IFs to assign categories to list items or to connect organization codes to their matching department names, great time saver and reliable method especially when combined with Excel tables to store reference data. I am always learning something new, thanks a lot!
Thanks Francesca! Vlookup is a great alternative to nested IF formulas.
Using Vlook up in order to get employment
Awesome video Jon! Love all of your video, clear and easy to understand. Another function that interest me would be the sumproduct functions. Wish you would make some of those!
Thanks Bonnie! I will put sumproduct on the list. 🙂
Thank you for the videos Jon! I am using Vlookup to compare a bill of materials to a part database to determine whether the part already exists in the database, or if the part information needs to be added to the database.
Awesome! Thanks Travis!
Another educative Video John. Iam going to use Vlookup to search for pdoduct Prices in our product listings database. Any Idea as to when i will have andy back with Video #2 on Vlookups?
Thanks Allan! I space the videos out about 2 days apart to give everyone time to watch them and practice.
Hi Jon
Brilliantly explained!!
Very thorough and precise.
Greetings, I will be using V-Lookup at work. I work for a manufacturing company in the accounting department and we deal with large amounts of data and sometimes need to pull a specific invoice from our statements that are exported unto excel, so with lookup I can easily pull that Invoice with the V-lookup formula.
Your cheat sheet will be very helpful!!!!!!!
Thank You,
Kimberly Maldonado
Thanks Kimberly! Happy to hear the cheat sheet helped. Have a great day! 🙂
This is just great. Thank you soo much.
Thanks Nomin! 🙂
Hi Jhon,
This video is very useful and interested.
Thanks Aamer! 🙂
I will be using vlookup to develop a training spreadsheet.
Thanks Jon, your video is great! After watching it, I realized that VLOOKUP is not what I need. I think that I will need INDEX & MATCH. The spreadsheet that I am revising needs a formula where I can type in a name & the function will search in 12 other sheets, in 2 columns & returning the date or dates that the name was entered on. Is that possible?
Hi Margie,
Yes, that is possible. It requires a pretty complex formula though. Here is an article that explains it in detail. I hope that helps. Thanks again!
thank you so much Jon Acampora sir..
Thank you so much for providing such great training! I am currently using the vlookup at my job, creating order forms for our customers, my son helped me set it up, but now I actually understand how to do it myself, making many more jobs much easier.
I am very much looking forward to the next video, thanks again!
Hi Margaret, That is awesome! I’m happy to hear you understand it and are learning Excel. Thanks again for the nice feedback. 🙂
HI JON,
GREAT VIDEO AND THIS IS REALLY HELPING ME BIG TIME WITH MY NEW JOB AS A COST ACCOUNTANT. HOPEFULLY I WILL ALWAYS KEEP IN TOUCH FOR NEW VIDEOS E.G. INDEX MATCH.
Thanks Samuel! And congrats on the new job! Awesome! 🙂 I will keep you updated on new posts in the future.
to use in project and price-list calculation. that definitely saves my time.
I use vlookup to compare month over month results. I love your videos. Thanks.
Thanks Madelyn! 🙂
Such helpful videos!! I will be using the lookup formulas in my new position as a finance specialist… been working retail and finally landed a position in finance and needed to refresh my memory, as it has been 11 years since I used Excel in any involved application. Forgot how awesome Excel can be when you possess the know-how. Thanks so very much Jon!!
Thanks Mike! And congrats on the new job. That is awesome! You are right, Excel provides endless opportunity for learning and problem solving. Have a nice weekend! 🙂

thank you so much for your time and kindness. What U do is just great. I am addicted to MS Excel already 🙂
Woohoo! Thanks Dashnyam. Glad to hear I’m not the only one that is addicted. 😉
Hi Jon.
I am using vlookup to extract prices from a pricing sheet in the same workbook and generate a quote.
The formula I am using is:
=VLOOKUP(B22,Security!$A$1:$L$13,6,FALSE)
when I open my workbook, it goes on a trip around the world before it settles down and allows me to do any input.
Any change I do, the same thing happens
Driving me crazy 🙂
Any recommendations
Hi Bassem,
That sounds like it could be caused by an add-in. I’ve seen this behavior from some add-ins. Do you have any 3rd party add-ins installed?
Thanks,
Jon
Not that I know of.
Regards
I really liked how you explained VLOOKUP – so much better then many sites i have looked at
Thanks Jim!
I use VLOOKUP to return lists of call recording#s associated with agents employee IDs on my job.
I use it to convert trail balance details from a client and reorganize into essentially a table to be used in another application.
Great video on Vlookup. Are the next videos 2 and 3 available yet? do you teach any dashboard courses?
Thanks Alan! I don’t have a full course on dashboards yet. I do have a free 3 part video series on pivot tables and dashboards, which I believe you have already seen.
Thanks again and have a good one! 🙂
I plan to use Vlookup for streamlining schedules as a quick look up form. I have a better understanding of the process and plan to make better use of my newly gained knowledge. Thanks Jon.
Awesome! Thanks Larry!
How can someone download the video and watch it offline?
Hi Wilson,
Sorry, I don’t have that option available right now for this video series.
