  • If i have staff missing in current month payroll i can use Vlook up to compare total salary or staff name column of the last month with current month to get the missing staff to reconcile.

  • Jon,

Just went thru your video and it is superb. You make a complicated task simple.

I would like your videos on Microsoft Word, if you have any.

  • I am an assistive technology trainer working with individuals who are blind and visually impaired. Many of my students use Excel in their jobs and I train them to use shortcut commands along with screen readers or magnification software. VLookup is a great tool especially for my accounting students. I appreciate the fact that you include keyboard shortcuts in your training!

  • I use QuickBooks and export large amounts of data to excel. From there vlookup will be invaluable in finding specific numbers.
thank you this will be a great help.

  • Its realistic.Simple & effective steps used, Thanks a lot Jon !!!!
Finding difficulty when I do the pricing & sorting of SKUs using lookup functions made me easier.

  • Thank you Jon for taking time out of your busy day and teaching us these skills. Appreciate it!

  • Your videos are very easy to understand and helpful. I use VLOOKUP to get employee census data based on the social security number. Thanks for confirming that sorting the table is not required when search type is false. I know realize that VLOOKUP is easier to use than I thought.

Thanks for providing this free service. I am looking forward to the next 2 videos in this series to see what I am missing.

  • I use the function to populate a blank col. in the worksheet with a narrative description of a part from a standard definition list based on the part number.

  • Thanks for the great work n the video! I want to sum 7 days worth of numbers, but only if it is Thursday. I use VLOOKUP to accesses an array for that -> =IF(VLOOKUP(WEEKDAY(C205),$AF$6:$AG$12,2)=”Thu”,SUM(AA199:AA205),””), with a 7Rx2C array like this:
    1 Sun
    2 Mon
    3 Tue

  • Jon,

I use Vlookup to looking for errors when doing reconciliation of my account.

  • I would like to use VLOOKUP to keep a running record of attendance points for my class. Attendance points are based on perfect attendance, 1-2 absences, 3-4 absences, 5-6 absences. More than 6 absences equal no points.

  • I am applying for a job that requires Pivot Table and VLOOKUP skills, which will be evaluated via an online evaluation administered by ‘Prove It!’. The evaluation will be timed and I think I’m going to have only one opportunity to take it. I have watched 3 Pivot Table videos by Jon, which have been very helpful, so I’m hoping for good results from this video about VLOOKUP also.

  • I’ll use vlookup to find the cost of a series of components in an array where the component’s part number is contained in the first column of the array and it’s cost in the seventh column.

  • You are doing a great Job Jon, Well done. please I would love to watch the second tutorial video on lookup, but I don’t know where to access it.

  • Hi John, Thanks for your really helpful excel videos, I have been doing basic v lookups for a while now and I’m quite comfortable with them, although you never stop learining.

I have used the “IF” function a few times but I’m quite nervous when it comes to doing anymore than just the basic vlookup, your videos really help.

ps John, I wish I could say the same for pivot tables as I’m just not getting the knack of them at all? I’ve been studying the videos so hopefully I’ll improve.

  • exploring what formula is best for looking up (and aggregating) account codes for a consolidation spreadsheet (i.e. downloading the GL into a spreadsheet and then populating the various financial statements and notes thereto).

  • Hi Jon,

I use VLookup for combining a few columns from multiple tables into one table that I can share with others to make their life easier when viewing the data. Thanks for the tips and keep up the great work!

  • Thank you, Jon, for decoding the vlookup syntax. I will use it to match current charge inventory to established coding parameters. A perfect application. Thanks.

  • I will have to play with VLOOKUP for a while to determine where it will benefit my processes most. I work a lot with Excel, but mostly to massage data for importing into other programs.

  • Great video, very clear explanations. thank you. I want to be able to use VLookup to create Summary Sheets for my budgets & NNN reconciliations, would save ALOT of time not having to link cells manually each time.

  • I do revenue recovery for a major GPO. this will be used to correlate very large data sets.

Thanks for a great !! job of instruction.

    All the Best

  • I would be using Vlook-up to match grades, demographics, majors to students’ ID in the reports I create for College Program Directors.

  • Currently I am taking a statistics course for my MBA program in HR., I have a table with data that I found on the internet concerning a psychological survey, so I am trying to create tables, pie charts, line graphs to show gender, education, degree of agreement of certain questions. So since I am 61 yrs old and have never really created any types of tables or charts for statistical purposes I was going to use the vlookup to start my search. Any suggestions on where I should begin I would greatly appreciate it. This course presupposes that the student has excel experience. Thanks for the video very helpful

  • Hello JON, I pretend to use the VLOOKUP formula to seek data in chemical destillation problems since I´m improving my skills to use EXCEL in that field.

Thank you so much for the tutorial, it´s very easy to follow and understand.

    Saludos!
