Please leave a comment below with your answer, and any questions. Thanks!

Our company uses Microsoft GP which has many Excel data download features. I have been using VLOOKUP for many specific data searches within these downloads but learned a couple valuable tips from this video.
Is the first i try and i love it!!!
Just curious to know something about vlookups. It was great and good to know and understand.
Thank you.
I use vlookup to search for certain data in a huge project am currently working on. Great video.

Tyring to see if this useful tool is what I need to manipulate the data in my spreadsheet. Excellent video. Very helpful.
I love the Starbucks example – very helpful!
Thank you jon. Really it’s very important function.
Thanks Mahmoud!
This is fantastic intro course. However, it’d be better if the video included the functions that can be used in Mac as well. Millennials in these days are big fans of Mac, and they want to use it on the mac. Other than the one platform-oriented function, I found this website very useful. I hope my comment helps!
Great video !!! Regards from Italy
Absolutely Doodle Dandy! Keep Teaching!
simply explained, good video
I sometimes use vlookup to access standard values from a table to then be used to calculate or print the result be it number or text
Great video Jon, thanks. we deal with a lot of surveys data and I’m hoping that this will help streamline the process I already have.
I am also interested in pivot tables and the use of % within the pivot table; based on individual totals as well as grand totals. ie a teacher has 16 sessions to observe so I need a % completed per teacher but also a grand total % for all teachers if you understand what I mean, if you have a video that covers this already please could you point me in the right direction if not any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for all your videos, great work, I am really enjoying learning new (to me) features of the application
Thank you, Sharon! I do have a video that explains % of total in pivot tables. It’s video #2 in a 3-part series on pivot tables & dashboards. I also have a video on analyzing survey data. I hope that helps. 🙂
I use it extensively to provide a single place to enter data in one place and use it in multiple places
Sir,
I have a workbook with many sheets linked with long formulae.
I face problems with Ref# errors when my staff cut & paste or move the original cell contents.
I don’t want the cut, copy & paste to be disabled,
but the cell reference must not be changed when cut, copy & paste or move the original cells.
Please help…!
very smart
Hi Jon, great video!
Simplified explanation and now I understand how to use the vlookup function. I want to use this function for my database clean-ups task at the work and knowing how to use the vlookup function will definitely save me a lot of time. Once again thanks for this, it’s extremely helpful.
Thank you so much Herman! I really appreciate the nice feedback. 🙂
It would be interesting to be able to add a second search aspect. For instance, when your family visits Starbucks they don’t all want the same size drink. If you can add more search aspects the dynamism of the vlookup function could be quite powerful.
Hi John,
Great suggestion! We can add multiple criteria to the lookup formulas. I explain more about that in the Ultimate Lookup Formulas course.
In the case of multiple family members, we can add additional cells with vlookup formulas to calculate each drink price.
Thanks!
I use Vlookup daily to combine data from separate reports. I feel very comfortable with it but know there is always more to learn. I look forward to Vids 2 & 3 and also to joining the class when you open it again.
Hi Jon,

I want to use it to analyze results of students and make decisions
The video was very helpful Jon.
My project is to use VLOOKUP to create a form from a data set.
e.g. sheet1 contains my data (i.e. SName FName DOB Sex Address etc as column headers)
on sheet2 create a form such that entering the SName value in a row will return all the details in the row on the form.
Thanks a lot sir, hope to have another tutorial. Godbless always 🙂

If VLookup uses the first row it finds with the Lookup Value in it, what happens to the other rows that have the same value (e.g. Caffe Latte in your example)? Are they overlooked?

To avoid nested IF conditions
Our design team is transitioning to a set of workbooks that use a lot of custom VB formulas. This was a great introduction to one of Excel’s built-in formulas (VLOOKUP), but it’s also a good introduction to how arguments are passed into other formulas, including routines that the user can create themselves in Visual Basic. I plan on sharing this with our team to help get them trained up and more familiar with Excel and VB. Thank you!
Great videos, really helpful.
