How to Manually Install The Hero Tools Add-in

This page contains step-by-step instructions for manually installing The Hero Tools Add-in for Excel.

Please note that you should only use this method if the automatic installation process does NOT work for you.

Installation Instructions

Here are the steps to install The Hero Tools Add-in:

Note: The installation process has been simplified with Hero Tools, and is a bit different than the normal steps to install an add-in.

1. Download the Add-in File

First, download the Hero Tools add-in file. The file is an Excel file with a .xlam extension.

Do NOT open the file.

Then click the Show in folder to open your Downloads folder in File Explorer.

Keep the Downloads folder open.

2. Unblock the Add-in File

Next, you must Unblock the file. This is a new security feature of Windows. The add-in will not appear in the Excel ribbon if you don't Unblock it first.

Right-click the “EC_Hero_Tools.xlam” file and select Properties.

Check the Unblock checkbox and then press OK.

3. Install the Add-in in Excel

Finally, you will copy the add-in file to your AddIns folder and enable it in Excel.

  1. Open Excel and go to the Developer tab. Click for instructions on how to enable the Developer tab if you don't see it.
  2. Click the Excel Add-ins button.
  3. Click the Browse button to open your AddIns folder.

Open the File Explorer window with your Downloads folder that you opened in section 1.

Drag the EC_Hero_Tools.xlam file from your Downloads folder into the AddIns folder.

Click Open.

You should see the Ec_Hero_Tools listed in the Add-ins window with the check box checked.

Click OK.

The Hero Tools tab will appear in the ribbon. It will appear every time you open Excel.
